Our sports programme runs for the benefit of all children whether they are naturally sporty or not. This programme reaches over 2000 children every day, and sometimes, a rare gem amongst them becomes a rising star – an individually talented sportsman or woman who may never have been able to tune their sporting talent without the Foundation.
When a Rising Star is identified and offered the rare and great honour to represent our province or our country in hockey, soccer, female rugby, canoeing or athletics, the Foundation has the responsibility to send these elite talents to provincial, national and international tournaments. The Foundation has nine rising stars in its constellation this year.
These opportunities are a great honour but come at great expense that parents are expected to cover including travel, accommodation, tracksuits, visas and more. These Rising Stars can only accept their invitation to these teams if the Foundation raises the funds, and takes on the responsibility to be sponsors and financial guardians.
This is why Grootbos Foundation has set up a Rising Stars fund so that we can send individuals to compete and participate at the highest level when they make it. Help us let our stars shoot for their dreams!
