Loving Camp Life
Do you remember the thrill of going away on school camp, being away from home and with your friends, up all night and planning midnight feasts for once the teachers had finally drifted off to sleep? The Grootbos Foundation knows the value of immersive camp experiences and also recognizes that many of the children in our local government schools no longer have access to these camps because of prohibitive costs. As part of the Grootbos Foundation’s programmes through the Football Foundation and Siyakhula Enterprise Development, many children go on camp with us for the first time in their lives.
Recently, ninety Grade 10s and 11s from Gansbaai Academia, Swartberg Secondary, Albert Myburgh High and Qhayiya Secondary attended the Employability Camp over three weekends at Wortelgat. They completed the Ready2Work Programme which focuses on Work, People, Money and Entrepreneurial skills. Amidst fun and laughter during which the teenagers got very little sleep, they completed their CVs. Following this camp experience, 20 teens will be selected from an interview to experience workplace experience in their chosen career path.
The Grootbos Foundation camp leaders and volunteers had a ball, but not as much as the teenagers did!
